How to measure for curtains

Measuring the correct curtain width

Measure the curtain track or pole width, not the window. If fitting a new track or pole, this should extend 15cm to 20cm either side of the window and at least 15cm above. Pinch pleat curtains have permanent sewn-in pleats; this means that you will be unable to adjust the width of the curtain once it's made. It's important therefore that you are accurate when measuring the width of the track or pole

Curtain poles

For curtain width, measure the width of the curtain pole between any finials or end caps.

Curtain tracks

For curtain width, measure the full width of the standard curtain track.

Curtain tracks with overlap

Measure the full width of the track (A) and the width of the overlap (B), then add the two together to get your correct width.

Measuring the correct curtain drop

Curtains can be hung either to the floor, to a sill or to below the sill. We suggest that curtains finish either:

• 1.5cm above the floor
• 15-20cm below the sill (or 2cm above the radiator)
• 1.5 cm above the sill

Pencil & Pinch pleat pole heading

When using a curtain pole, measure from the underside of the decorative ring to where you want the curtain to finish at the bottom.

When using a curtain track, measure from the top of the track to where the curtain is to finish at the bottom.

Eyelet heading

Our eyelet heading curtains will fit poles up to 3cm in diameter. Measure from the top of the pole to where the curtain should finish and add 4cm.

Linings significantly enhance the appearance and drape of your curtains and blinds. As importantly they also help protect the fabric fading from sunlight as well as providing an insulating layer to keep your room warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

• Standard – A great everyday choice. Sateen twill. 50% Polyester 50 % Cotton
• Premium – Available in white or cream, with a special finish that feels super smooth. 100% Cotton
• Thermal – Specially coated on the reverse to help retain heat and keep out cold. 52% Polyester 48% Cotton
• Blackout – Specially coated to block out the light. 70% Polyester 30% Cotton
• Luxury – A soft brushed lining to give curtains both a fuller look and extra thermal properties. 48% Cotton 52% Polyester
